Animal Sounds

After months and months of repetition with animal sounds, Liam has finally decided to reward me by saying some back to me!  Out of the blue, he started in with monkey sounds "oh oh ah ah", cow sounds "mmmmoooo" and the best one yet....the elephant "brrrrrr".  Just last night, we were reading a book and as soon as I turned a page and the elephant appeared, Liam started in with "brrrr" followed by the trunk arm movement.  It is just too cute not to video, so enjoy :)

1st Haircut

Liam had his first haircut on Tuesday.  Josh and I have been delaying it and delaying it, but it had started to fall in his eyes and bug him, so we figured it was time.  Of course Liam, in classic textbook form, started in with separation anxiety the past couple of weeks, so I was fully expecting a rough haircut.  I came prepared with cars, and cookies, and milk as back up but thankfully I didn't need any of it.  He was a little nervous right at first and even shed a couple tears, but there were so many neat distractions (play cars to sit in, bubbles, paper flowers, books, you name it).  And before he (and I) knew it, he was done!  So happy he stayed strong.  Of course I was so proud of him afterwards that I let him postpone nap a bit so he could use his push toy outside for an extra long time...he was in heaven!

Poor Polly

Liam has a new favorite game. It's pretty simple really....take the push toy and push it into Polly until she jolts. He thinks it is the funniest thing and I have to admit, I laugh every time. Poor Polly...

Crazy Week

I know I am overdue for a blog post, but it has been one crazy week for us. On Monday, Liam returned to school after being out for 2 weeks!! He was so excited to be there that he only took 1 30 min nap the entire day (this is a reoccurring thing for us when we go to daycare). It is usually not a problem though because when I'm home on Tuesday's he gets to nap great and is ready to charge ahead at school come Wednesday. Well this Tuesday we had to forgo his afternoon nap because he was scheduled to see an occupational therapist regarding his gag reflex. He still gags (to the point of throwing up) on table food and so our Dr. wanted him checked out just to make sure nothing else was going on. Luckily everything checks out great...it's just that our little man seems to be about 3 months behind when it comes to eating table food. Anyway, the appointment lasted 2 1/2 hours and by the time we got home it was pushing 4:30 and he just would not go down for a nap that late. Fast forward to Wednesday where we had another 30 min nap at daycare and by Thursday morning we (and yes, I do mean "we") were MISERABLE. He wasn't sleeping great at night because he wasn't getting the rest he needed during the day and it was one big cycle. To top it off, I was supposed to work Thursday this week (instead of Friday), so off he went to daycare and hardly a nap for the 4th day in a row. Needless to say, I got a phone call around noon on Thursday that Liam was super fussy and they weren't sure if he was sick or if something was wrong. (Of course I knew he was just tired, but he wasn't going to get the sleep he needed unless I got him home). He finally got a great nap Thursday afternoon, great sleep Thursday night (i put him to bed at 6:30PM!) and was doing better Friday morn just in time for us to torture him again with 3 shots for his 1 year check up. Our poor little man has had a rough rough week and as I type this he is approaching the 2 1/2 hour mark on his nap. This week just goes to show you how much babies LOVE schedules, thrive on schedules and rely on schedules to keep them happy :)

Soo tired. Fell asleep on the way
home from OT apt

Finally feeling better this morning

1 year old!

Today Liam is 1 and I have very mixed emotions....

On one hand, I remember when he was first born I could not wait for him to reach 1, and now, here we are and in fact I am a little sad that he is already 1. I feel as though this past year was one big blur and wish that I could do it all over again and really appreciate each and every second. I'm hoping when we go through all this again I can just stop and "smell the roses" so to speak. They go through so many milestones in that first year and it is truly amazing when you take time to reflect on it.

On the other hand, I am ecstatic that we all survived the 1st year and our little "biggy" is growing up. In those first few weeks of his life I used to chant "if we can only make it to 1 year", "if we can only make it to 1 year" and guess what....we made it! And we made it with flying colors and it FLEW by. He is already trying to talk and I just know in a few short months he will be walking and talking all over the place and then we will no longer have a "baby". It's going to be a blast!

The past month of Liam's 1st year has been a little rough to say the least. He has had 3 major illnesses in the past 4 weeks alone. Not to mention we took away the bottle AND the formula. First came hand/foot/mouth awfulness, but luckily it was short lived. Next we had a small cold that went straight into a double ear infection. Finally, while recovering from the ear infection we came down with chicken pox. We were 1 week away from getting the vaccine and just like that.....he is now covered in spots. We are nearing the end of the pox, which in comparison weren't as bad as some other things he has had this year, and I'm really hoping that for our little man's sake, he can stay well for awhile. I think he (and us for that matter) deserve it! So, to kick of this year of "healthiness" as I like to call it, we are heading to the zoo today for the first time. Can't wait to show Liam all the different animals and ride on the choo choo train. Of course he won't be able to touch anything (just being overly safe cause of the pox), so we will definitely have to go back soon when he can climb all over. On Saturday we are heading out to my parents house for a small pizza, cupcake and present opening celebration with his cousins, Aunts/Uncles and grandparents. It should be a lot of fun and we can't wait!

At 1, Liam is:

- A pretty laid back little boy who loves to ham it up and needs to constantly be doing something
- Fairly close to walking: Stands by himself for extended periods of time and will attempt to take some steps to mommy
- Trying to talk up a storm: Points to EVERYTHING all day long and says "dat?", says "uh oh" repeatedly, says "all done" and will sometimes say "yeh"
- Still LOVES pushing his truck and walking behind it
- Is now loving The Wiggles (Really anything with music he will sit and watch)
- Has a severe obsession with balloons...they literally make him crazy
- Still has a pretty hefty appetite (I heard this slows down around 1, but not for us yet!)
- Sleeping from 7 - 6/6:30 regularly (unless sick of course)
- Taking two 1 1/2 hour naps a day
- Loves playing with pillows (strange, I know)
- Weighs in at 23 lbs 8 oz (We don't go for our official 1 year check up until the end of next week, but since he has been so sick lately we've gotten on the scale quite a few times for our dr visits)
